Poetry Live! is a celebration of poetry in performance, with famous poets that are studied as part of the GCSE English Literature course giving readings and providing insights into the meaning and structure of their poems.
34 Year 10 students attended this year’s event at the Palace Theatre in Manchester along with Mr Daniels, Miss Tebay and Mr Hartley. We enjoyed lively performances from John Agard, Simon Armitage, Carol Ann Duffy, Gillian Clarke, Owen Sheers, Imtiaz Dharker and Dalhit Nagra.
At SJT we recognise the importance of reading. Reading improves our vocabulary, makes us more creative and may help us to relax - a vital life skill.
We read in school for 20 minutes every day. Students carry a reading book with
them at all times. In English lessons, reading strategies are taught alongside novels, short stories and non-fiction texts. Year 7 students have been busy writing book reviews based on books they have been reading. Please click on the link to read their reviews.
