The Arvon Experience 2019
Some of our Year 10 students spent a fantastic week at the Arvon Centre in Heptonstall to develop their creative writing skills.
Working with renowned writers Melvin Burgess and Anjum Malik the students took part in series of workshops designed to develop their creativity and to introduce them to the methods that professional writers use to develop their ideas.
Students produced their own poetry and prose based on their own life experiences and also work inspired by the local landscape. They also had the opportunity to listen to their tutors, and local poet Clare Shaw, read from their own work.
The trip was accompanied by Mr Daniels and Mrs Farrington, both of whom also took part in the workshops and produced their own original writing. Melvin and Anjum were full of praise for the students and the work they produced.
The Arvon staff were also incredibly complementary about the group. Mr Daniels and Mrs Farrington were very proud of the students’ achievements and hope to see them continue with their writing in the future.
