Christianity and Islam.

This topic allows students to apply the knowledge gained to ethical issues.  Students will consider the Sanctity of life and how this belief impacts moral decisions linked to war,  the death penalty and the treatment of animals.  Students will also consider how religion affects laws in the UK and beyond.
Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic 

How religion impacts society.

How religions view war.

Beliefs about the Sanctity of life.

Christian and Islamic opinions towards the sanctity of life.

Christian and Islamic beliefs on the treatment of animals.

How religion views the death penalty.
This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding  Students will have knowledge of Christian and Muslim beliefs and teachings.  Students will have some understanding on how belief affects behaviour from earlier topics such as stewardship.
Key Skills that students should be able to demonstrate at the end of 'Topic' This is the skills  that students will meet for the first time in this topic

Explain and Interpret diverse views of beliefs, teachings and sources of wisdom and authority in relation to morality and decision making.  Show understanding of religions and worldviews as coherent systems or ways of seeing the world.

Evaluate a wide range of ways in which commitment and identity are expressed and how religion impacts behavior
This is skills that students may have met before but will need to develop  Evaluate how and why individuals and communities express the meanings of their identity, beliefs and values in many different forms and ways of living.
