Topic  Digital Imagery
No of lessons  6
When is it happening  Year 7 term 1
What will students learn Students will learn about creating, reusing, revising and repurposing digital artefacts. Students will identify a variety of digital graphics and why these are used. Identify and describe the purpose and audience of digital graphics. Students will then move on to gaining an understanding of the key tools (Shapes, Brush, Text, layers) in Photoshop to produce a movie poster. Students will gather feedback and produce an evaluation against teacher defined success criteria.
Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic  Students will learn about why graphic editing software such as photoshop is very useful for graphic editing. Students will be able to identify and describe the key components of Photoshop interface i.e. Canvas, Tool bar, Layers and menu bar. Students will be able to explain the use of key tools such as Selection tool, Crop, Eraser, Colours, Move, Marquee tool, Brush, Text, Shapes, Lasso tool, Magic Wand tool and Magnetic and Polygonal tool. Students will learn how to analyse a final product to see if it meets the client requirements and identify improvements.
This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding  Students may know the following from KS2: select, use and combine a variety of software (including internet services) on a range of digital devices to design and create a range of programs, systems and content that accomplish given goals, including collecting, analysing, evaluating and presenting data and information.
Key Skills that students should be able to demonstrate at the end of 'Topic' This is the skills  that students will meet for the first time in this topic

Selecting suitable images

Saving images to Student drive

Opening and saving work in Photoshop

Setting up page canvas

Using correct page orientation

Use of layers to edit individual objects

Use instructions to create computer graphics using the tool such as Marquee / Selection tool, Crop, Eraser, Colours, Move, Brush, Text, Shapes

Using short cut key such as Zoom in = CTRL & Lasso tool, Magic Wand tool and Magnetic and Polygonal Lasso tool.

Write a brief review of the final product to see if it meets the client requirements and suggest improvements.

This is skills that students may have met before but will need to develop

Students will learn how to source images identified for use in digital artefacts for a given audience, Save images in an appropriate folder/file.
