When is it happening  Year 8 - Term 2
What will students learn Students study ideas, political power, industry and empire: Britain, 1745-1901 by studying the Industrial Revolution with an emphasis on local history.
Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic  Students will consider the key features of life before the Industrial Revolution and the developments and changes that occurred as a result.
This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding  Retrieving knowledge of key developments around this era, namely the British Empire and the involvement in the Transatlantic Trade of Enslaved People. Some students have patchy knowledge of conditions during the 19th century from studying conditions locally at KS2.
Key Skills that students should be able to demonstrate at the end of 'Topic' This is the skills  that students will meet for the first time in this topic Students will develop their ability to assess change and continuity. Being able to understand how features of society can change and continue, whilst making judgements regarding the extent of change.
This is skills that students may have met before but will need to develop  Students should understand how to form explanations as well as being able to write two sided argument. Additionally, students will have experience of reaching and attempting to justify their own argument.
Key vocabulary that students should know and understand Revolution, Industrialisation, Domestic system, Urbanisation, Factory, Agriculture, Epidemic, Manufactured, Economy, Change, Continuity, Progress.
