When is it happening  Term 3 Year 7
What will students learn Students must learn the basic techniques of playing Ukulele , guitar, bass guitar using TAB notation.  Understanding the use of the four chords in popular music and being able to perform them  on keyboards.  They will learn how to play drum kits/drum pads and understand the drum patterns used in pop music.  They will gain an understanding of popular music structure and work within this format.  They will be able to recognise these structures when listening to popular music. They will develop their ensemble playing skills even further adapting their parts to fit in with others. They will learn keywords relevant to popular music and gain an understanding of how different components come together 
Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic  Knowledge about popular music, its features, devices, structures, instrumentation and genres.  New knowledge about harmony in the use of chords and broken chords.  Students will understand how repetitive patterns are used and why.  They will combine these aspects to create a final performance
This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding  Students should have gained knowledge about ensemble rehearsal techniques and  musical communication.  They will  have understanding of texture, tempo, dynamics, pitch and duration as well as structure. They will understand the importance of listening to the pulse in ensemble playing.
Key Skills that students should be able to demonstrate at the end of 'Topic' This is the skills  that students will meet for the first time in this topic How to perform on different instruments with a range of techniques.  How to rehearse effectively as an individual and as part of an ensemble.  How to recognise musical cues within an ensemble.  How to recognise particular features of popular music when listening and to use those features when performing.
This is skills that students may have met before but will need to develop  How to develop ensemble skills and improve technique.  How to extend pieces when playing in an ensemble and how to listen for changes within the ensemble.  How to listen for particular features within popular music. How to use the elements of music when describing the music you are playing or listening to.

Melody, chords, TAB, fret, strum, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, 4 beat, 8 beat, hi hat, bass drum , snare drum
