What will students learn Students must learn the key features of Commedia and how to play the different key stock characters within performance.  Students must learn how to perform in an exaggerated manner whilst exploring centres of gravity and leading body parts.  Students must learn about improvisation in order to perform in a Lazzi.
Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic  The history of Italian theatre - when it began and the recognisable features of the style.  Students will learn about stock characters e.g servants and masters. Students will be introduced to tension states and centres of leading for developing character physicality.  Lazzis will be introduced to students in order for students to become familiar with the purpose of the style of theatre.
This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding  Students will recall knowledge of mime in order to improve their physicality and precision when acting.
Key Skills that students should be able to demonstrate at the end of 'Topic' This is the skills  that students will meet for the first time in this topic Students will be introduced to improvisation (lazzis) and will explore the different physicality's of stock characters through tension states and centres of leading.  Students will need to demonstrate these physical skills within performance.  Students will also learn to apply the comedy rule of 3 in a slapstick stage fight routine.  Students will create their own character masks in this unit to enhance their stock character role.
This is skills that students may have met before but will need to develop  Through exploration of the features of commedia students will be able to apply all of the explored characterisation techniques in order to create a short improvised performance in mask with clear recognisable stock characters and storyline.
