Topic  The Evolution of Horror through time

When is it happening  Half Term 3 Year 8
What will students learn  Students will explore the genre of horror, including some of its sub-genres, as it has been presented to audiences through different ages.  Students will study a selection of extracts from seminal texts of the genre and from different time periods, including contemporary and pre-1914 extracts.  Students will continue to develop their narrative essay writing skills.  Students will also learn the importance of re-reading by revisiting, during independent learning, some of the myths they studied during Year 7 Term 1 as a basis for developing comparison skills.
Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic  Timeline of the horror genre; sub-genres:- horror, gothic, paranormal, occult, dark fantasy, survival, science-fiction horror; extracts from seminal works covering the core genres:- Stephen King, RL Stine, Bram Stoker, Edgar Allen Poe, Mary Shelley, Anthony Horowitz, Susan Hill, Robert Louis Stephenson, Oscar Wilde, Angela Carter; how novels are marketed.
This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding
