What will students learn Students will fulfil the requirement of studying a significant society - Mughal Empire 1526-1857 and it's interconnection with other world developments - East India Company and the British Empire.
Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic  Students will understand the key features of an empire. Students will learn about the size and development of the Mughal Empire. Students will focus on the methods of rule of the Mughal Emperors, in particular religion, finance and governance and warfare. Students will compare and contrast the Mughal Emperors to the Tudor/Stuart monarchs. Students will learn the reasons for the fall of the Mughal Empire and its connection to the rise of the British Empire.
This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding  Knowledge of the qualities of good kingship/leadership. Methods of rule in Medieval and Tudor England. The importance of religion and the factions that had developed in society up to this point.
Key Skills that students should be able to demonstrate at the end of 'Topic' This is the skills  that students will meet for the first time in this topic Students will compare and contrast the styles and features of rule of the Tudor/Stuarts and the Mughal Emperors, focusing on religion, government, finance and warfare. Students will judge the success of each.
This is skills that students may have met before but will need to develop  Students have previously compared and contrasted life in the Middle Ages to life in the Tudor era. Students are developing their ability to compare different societies.  Students have completed an assessment on causes so these skills should be embedded and students will begin to create links between the causes of the decline.
Key vocabulary that students should know and understand Empire, Emperor, Compare, Contrast, Dahsala, Court, Mansabdari, jizya, East India Company, Persians.
