What will students learn  Students have the opportunity to generate a design specification for a specific target user. Generate and present design ideas. Learn basic circuit theory. Learn about a range of electronic components. Learn how to construct a circuit by soldering. Generate CAD designs for laser cutting.
Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic  Materials and components, circuit construction. CAD/CAM basics.
This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding

Basic concepts in electricity, charge, voltage, current, resistance.

Simple circuits.

Key Skills that students should be able to demonstrate at the end of 'Topic' This is the skills  that students will meet for the first time in this topic Circuit construction, soldering and testing. Use of CAD (2D Design) software.
This is skills that students may have met before but will need to develop  Students will be able to identify simple electronic components and their symbols.
Key vocabulary that students should know and understand Voltage , component , conductor, LED, computer aided design , design brief, specification
The Big Question  How do circuits work?

Key questions that students should be able to answer at the end of the 'Topic'

 What is electricity?
What are conductors & insulators?
What is voltage, current and resistance?
How does a simple LED circuit work?
What are PCBs for?
How do we solder safely?
What is CAD/CAM?
How can we use CAD to develop a design that could be made using a laser-cutter?
 What is laser-cutting?
What are the physical properties of acrylic and pine and why does this make them useful in our project?
