What will students learn  Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of some of the seminal mythology that has impacted our society and culture. Students will learn about a selection of myths from Greek mythology.  Students will also learn how to write a simple expository essay as well as developing their skills in writing narrative essays.
Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic  History of Greek mythology; the twelve Olympians as the major Greek deities; purpose, vocabulary choice, and characters in the following myths:- The Three Sisters of Fate, Pandora’s Box, Perseus and the Gorgon Medusa; a selection of other Greek myths to be chosen by the teacher; key aspects of society that have been influenced by Greek mythology
This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding

Key Skills that students should be able to demonstrate at the end of 'Topic' This is the skills  that students will meet for the first time in this topic

Students will focus on acquiring the following skills: making inferences; referring to evidence; purpose; vocabulary choice; characterisation; expressing own ideas, write like a short story writer.

This is skills that students may have met before but will need to develop  This is the first unit of learning at SJT and so the focus will be on skills acquisition
