Year 7 One Connect Project at Burnley Youth Theatre

In January a group of Yr7 students began working in collaboration with students from      Ridgewood Community High School on a project which was led by practitioners at Burnley Youth Theatre. The project delivered accessible and inclusive drama workshops over a 10-week period that allowed the students to explore themselves and their community, as well as work towards producing a creative response to their learning.
The sessions gave the young people an opportunity to explore the arts in a unique and exciting way, whilst helping to improve emotional and social well-being, self-confidence and self-esteem and dispel misconceptions and judgements that the young people may have about one another.

On Thursday 30th March, the project concluded with a performance of the work that the students had created at Burnley Youth Theatre for invited friends, family and staff,  giving the young people a platform to share their voice and the work they created during the project.

The students were fantastic, representing themselves and Sir John Thursby Community College exceptionally throughout the duration of the project. It was great to see the students thriving, and to hear first-hand the positive impact the project had on their confidence, Drama and social skills.
