What will students learn  Students will fulfil the requirement of studying challenges for Britain, Europe and the wider world 1901 to the present day through the study of the inter-war years and steps to WW2
Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic  Students will have a recap of the situation at the end of WW1 in particular the peace settlement. Students will learn the difference between democracy and dictatorship. Students will learn about communism and fascism with a focus on Italy, the Soviet Union and Germany. Students will learn about the actions of Hitler and the policy of appeasement
This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding  Retrieving knowledge of the impact and consequences of WW1, in particular the Treaty of Versailles. Understanding key features of democracy from studying women’s suffrage in Year 8
Key Skills that students should be able to demonstrate at the end of 'Topic' This is the skills  that students will meet for the first time in this topic Students will analyse the policy of appeasement and use interpretations,  critical thinking and debate in order to reach a reasoned judgement about the policy of appeasement.
This is skills that students may have met before but will need to develop  Students will have experience studying interpretations in Year 7 and Year 8. Students will have experience providing a balanced argument from Year 7 and Year 8. Students will have some experience of writing a reasoned judgement
Key vocabulary that students should know and understand Armistice, Treaty, Democracy, Dictatorship. Dictator, Communism, Fascism, Capitalism, Secret police, Pact, Appeasement
