When is it happening  Term 1
What will students learn

Understand the connections between methods of calculation for fractions, decimals and percentage

Be able to apply the four operations to fractions, decimals and percentage

Experience manipulating and comparing methods of calculation involving fractions, decimals and percentage

Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic  Converting between fractions and decimals students have the opportunity to evaluate different methods of addition and subtraction calculation identifying advantages and disadvantages. Students use denominators in powers of ten to support multiplication of decimals. Associativity (and distributivity) can also be leveraged to manipulate calculations for greater efficiency. Division calculations are represented using fractions, decimals and percentage to support students to see their commonality of structure.
This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding  Students revisit mental and written methods of conversion between fractions, decimals and percentages to support comparison.
Key Skills that students should be able to demonstrate at the end of 'Topic' This is the skills  that students will meet for the first time in this topic add, subtract, multiply, divide
This is skills that students may have met before but will need to develop  basic number operations
Key vocabulary that students should know and understand
