Topic  Life in 1900 - Women's Suffrage

When is it happening  Year 8 - Term 2 
What will students learn  Students will fulfil the requirement of studying challenges for Britain, Europe and the wider world, 1901 to the present day, through the study of women's suffrage.
Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic  Students will compare the key features of society from 1750 to 1900. Looking specifically at population, transport, medicine and education. Students will learn the important stages in ordinary people gaining the vote. Students will learn about the position of women in particular the 1850s-1900. The inequalities in comparison to men. Students will learn about the methods and actions of the Suffragists and the Suffragettes including Emily Davison. Students will learn about the reactions to the Suffragettes in society. Students will learn about the work women did during WW1 and when women received the vote.
This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding  Retrieving knowledge on features of society in 1750 and also the position of women in society, when studied life in the Middle Ages and life in the Renaissance, in particular the social structures. Knowledge of female monarchs in Year 7 Mary I and Elizabeth I.
Key Skills that students should be able to demonstrate at the end of 'Topic' This is the skills  that students will meet for the first time in this topic Students will develop their ability to write a causal argument. Students will consider more than one cause and able to write consistent PEE paragraphs. Students will be able to create some links between causes. Students will begin to provide a reasoned conclusion.
This is skills that students may have met before but will need to develop  Students will be developing their knowledge of how causes are connected and beginning to provide sophisticated judgements.
Key vocabulary that students should know and understand Democracy, Equality, Suffrage, Inferior, Campaign, Peaceful, Militant.
