|What will students learn||
Students must develop their understanding of various athletics events and the type of skill related fitness required to succeed in them. They must develop this through testing their skill related fitness: agility (Illinois agility test); balance (stork stand); coordination (hand wall toss); speed (30m sprint); reaction time (ruler drop) and power (standing broad jump) and participation in various sports hall athletics track and field event as per the competition format. Students must learn how to be judge/scorer with the ability to use a stopwatch correctly.

The six skill related fitness components (agility, balance, coordination, reaction time, power, speed), appropriate tests for these components, protocols when conducting the tests, techniques in each athletic event to be successful e.g. the importance of arms, legs and head during sprint technique, strategies to apply to overcome an opponent e.g. downward/upward sweep during relay changeover, how to start a track event, rules of each event, how an event is timed/measured. Students must know how to use a stopwatch correctly.

Students will have knowledge of the impact of fitness on performance, knowledge of how to conduct fitness tests and record results, analyse results against national norms, evaluate own fitness, experience of athletics competitions in primary school and watching larger sporting events such as Olympics/Commonwealth Games.

To carry out skill related fitness tests following the correct protocols, practice techniques / strategies required for a variety of sports hall athletics events (2lap/4 width race, long jump, triple jump, vertical jump, speed bounce, shotput, relay, hurdle relay, paarlauf), compete in various indoor track/field events following the correct rules. Use a stop watch accurately.

Carrying out a fitness test to the correct protocols, accurately record fitness tests using the correct units, running style technique and developing techniques of events they may already have had experience of e.g. the speed bounce.
