What will students learn Students will learn about different aspects of travel writing including the different modes in which it can be conveyed to the reader. Students will explore a variety of extracts from non-fiction travel through the ages to facilitate this learning. Students will learn how to write a travelogue.
Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic  Definition of travel writing; timeline of travel writing including Pausanias, Chinese travel record literature, Gilles le Bouvier, the Grand Tour, and Paul Theroux; purpose of travel writing; modern mediums of travel writing including newspaper supplements, blogs, Instagram, and TV; travel writing conventions; travel writing extracts from Robert Louis Stevenson, Paul Theroux, George Orwell, Bill Bryson, Karl Pilkington, Michael Palin
