Art Textiles

Curriculum Intent Statement

The Art Textiles curriculum at Key Stage 4 is designed to nurture creativity, independence, and technical skill through the exploration of textile-based art and design. Our intent is to provide students with a rich and stimulating experience that enables them to:

  • Develop creative thinking and personal expression by experimenting with a wide range of textile techniques, materials and processes.
  • Gain technical proficiency in methods such as embroidery, fabric manipulation, printmaking, dyeing and mixed-media construction.
  • Explore cultural and historical contexts by studying the work of artists, designers, and textile traditions from diverse backgrounds.
  • Encourage critical analysis and reflection through research, idea development, and evaluation of their own and others' work.
  • Prepare for future pathways in art, design, and creative industries by developing transferable skills such as problem-solving, resilience and visual communication.

Our curriculum empowers students to become confident, independent learners who can articulate ideas visually and verbally, while appreciating the role of textiles in shaping art and society.
