What will students learn? 

Students must understand the growth and changing characteristics of different types of settlements. A focus on how Burnley has changed and the reasons for urbanisation in China. Students will locate and understand the term megacity. 

Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic 

Study the hierarchy of settlements and how and why settlements change due to population growth; Investigate the growth of megacities across the world, with links to urbanisation and economic development. 

Focus on urbanisation in China -cause and consequences

This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding 

Students already have knowledge of settlements and land use. Students already have knowledge of economic activity.  Students have already studied how much of the items they own is made and transported from other countries 

Key Skills that students should be able to demonstrate at the end of 'Topic' This is the skills  that students will meet for the first time in this topic

Students will be able to read choropleth graphs. Students will be able to understand topographical maps. 

Students will be able to draw links between different resources.

This is skills that students may have met before but will need to develop  Students will be able to use Atlas' for location of cites.  Students will consolidate 4 and 6 figure grid references.
