When is it happening  Half Term 6 Year 8
What will students learn Students will learn about how news has been disseminated through the ages, as well as focusing on how news is currently accessed in our society.  Students will explore the pros and cons of these different news formats and mediums.  Students will develop their understanding of the concept of perception and bias by exploring how one news item is presented through a range of different news formats and mediums.  During this unit, students will also take part in a formal debate, create original articles based on a societal issue, intended for different audiences.  Finally, students will also produce a formal letter.
Key Knowledge that students should know at the end of 'Topic' This is the knowledge that students will meet for the first time in this topic  What is news, incorporating the concept of fake news; news timeline; current mediums for disseminating news; pros and cons of a selection of these mediums; what is bias and how is it achieved; tracking one news item through a selection of news formats and mediums, including both digital and print based; formal debating; writing two versions of an article on a news item with each article aimed at different audiences; formal letter writing.
This is knowledge that students may have met before but will need to deepen their understanding
